Opening Event of the Centre of Excellence for Well-Being Sciences in Pärnu Brings Together 80 Researchers
On May 13-14, the seminar of the Centre of Excellence for Well-Being Sciences brought together 80 researchers from Tallinn University, the University of Tartu, and TalTech. The Centre aims to unite scientists studying individuals and their contexts of action to discover new ways to measure, understand, and influence human well-being.
According to the scientific director of the Centre, Andero Uusberg, in addition to getting acquainted with each other, the two-day seminar clarified several opportunities for collaboration and sparked valuable ideas for future development. “Good interdisciplinarity is uncomfortable for everyone because it requires stepping out of your comfort zone—it takes courage and encouragement. I dare to say that we succeeded in building the trust needed to think bigger together.”
On the first day of the opening seminar, researchers delved into each other’s research directions, main research questions, and methodologies. On the second day, they explored how different research groups approach the same phenomenon. New ideas were generated in an inter-group “speed dating” format.
The opening event was organized by Stella Täht, Merike Sisask (Tallinn University), Kelli Lehto, Andero Uusberg, and Marina Roosimäe (University of Tartu).
